The Plate

Steven Krout

In the living room,
my wife is making art inspired
by a Saint Teresa of Calcutta quoteโ€“
โ€œWash the plate not because it is dirty
nor because you were told to wash it,
but because you love the person who will use it next.โ€
In the kitchen,
Iโ€™m eating leftovers on a paper plate
that will never be used again.
