The Plate

In the living room,
my wife is making art inspired
by a Saint Teresa of Calcutta quote–
“Wash the plate not because it is dirty
nor because you were told to wash it,
but because you love the person who will use it next.”
In the kitchen,
I’m eating leftovers on a paper plate
that will never be used again.
