Whispers of Us

We are the amnesiac offspring of eternity,
the favorite child of creation.
There must be whispers of us
in the hallways of heaven
and the alleys of galaxies.

But we cannot remember who made us,
or what we’re made of.

All the creatures and constellations and all their atoms
look up to us
as we look down at our feet,
too timid to make eye contact with the cosmos.
