my nightly

why do the floorboards, every time, creak
when I come to bed
just a few pages of poetry
and a glass of water was all
not wanting to move the sheets
and disrupt the warmth you’ve made
only to slip in for a sliver of you
and see how awake you are
and to let my heart stir for a moment
you at rest
is enough for me

Zach is best known for his songs. His ideal day is a hike through the redwoods with his family, and a slow afternoon in and out of the Smith River. He would go to sleep earlier if only there weren't so many scents & poems that only come out at night. Zach has released 7 albums of original music and has begun work on an 8th.
