And here I am
running my thoughts through my
hair in a stranger’s armchair.
I am withdrawing old loves and
friends, the first great heartbreak,
then the seven dates to a stall,
the bachelors turned husbands
and the seas in between.
The brothers I used to have.
I have stacked them in a row for him
but as I look at them
the sadness that sits in me, stands.
I did not know his name
but I have laughed for him,
like Sarah’s first, bitter before her providence.
Will you provide still more friends and
brides? Are we still in the Age of Discovery?
This heart creaks for ignition.
Saint Anthony watch over all those we
lost and give us eyes to see all we’re given,
that it’s all loss and gain.
