Coming Home
Coming Home
John Poole
Memories wash over morning,
green summer days, valleys of daytime
followed foraging nighttime–
sunlight play, sleep and bed far away–
meandered through day like years, built
mansions, Egyptian-like pyramids rose
from dirt, green plastic soldiers guarded
yellow and red cowboys–
subtlety of summer bowed
to fall, constant breezes brushed
naked trees, leaves collected
in cornflake piles, paused for spring
warmth, one breathe away.
