An Embossed Soul
An Embossed Soul
Grace Pike
“Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone—we find it with another.” — Thomas Merton
Pt. I
Cup of tea, bit of honey
Here’s a blanket from the basket–”
Some only see a silver screen
But we experience the story
Fingers lifted in the back of the truck
With dusk light drifting in
One day you’ll meet my eyes differently
And no one else will notice
Streams of water shield us
And the old movie theater
Sits still in its dark and quiet
Promising a story not yet told
Pt. II
Stomachs full of laughter
And wind rushing through our hair
These won’t last long enough
Once they start to notice
You hold me in the doorframe
With my hair still dripping wet
And nothing matters
Except for our both being there
But what is sacred to me
Becomes commonplace to you
And the same lips that kept me tethered
Begin our unraveling
Pt. III
Funny we should both be here
With dusk light drifting in
And everyone noticing
you meet my gaze differently
Some only see tragedy
But we experience the truth:
You'll see it in blue
As I will in laughter;
When windows are rolled down
Or when a question is asked well;
How a certain word is said
And every time a silver screen flickers
