This Our Hallowed Haunting
This Our Hallowed Haunting
Alexander Brickey
The gloom which hangs like fog amidst the Christmas snow
Weighs like bricks upon the backs of Israel.
In foreign land they toiled and tread in woe
And waited for their savior to answer their appeal.
We too now wait for Jesus to return.
With our world we groan and call to Him who hears
To yield this dying world to refinement burn
So we might join Him in eternal years.
Yet while we wait another follows us.
He blows the fog of gloom away with grace
And rings the quiet bells of remembrance:
An infant born in fallen world saved our race.
The Ghost within our souls with hope now flaunting
Reminds us of the hope we have; this our hallowed haunting
