Sacred-Making
Sacred-Making
Kimberly Phinney
plucked from the vine my hands
wash you clean
red in bloom i waited for
you i cradled and read
you like fine-printed wonder black
and white on the page
like double suns on ocean
horizons halting man
to stare like a newborn’s mouth
predawn crying for mother’s milk
this divine quotidian act
we make as I cut you in halves
your twin chambers in twos
pulse your meaty valves breathe life
a fruit they say
a heart like mine
we beat together
in this sacred-making
i eat
