Autumn Breeds Nostalgia
Autumn Breeds Nostalgia
Taryn Murphy
autumn breeds nostalgia;
burnt copper déjà vu
coagulates half-grasped regret
on quiv’ring midday dew.
the sadness has a virgin birth—
no hint from whence it came,
conceived in foggèd, yearning morns:
a needful, pleasured pain.
i long to touch its auburn shape,
to choke on tears divine
spun in my eyes by flamèd oak,
by hollowed air sublime.
this happy sorrow tipsifies,
makes love to sealost souls,
then, morning, leaves without caress
as we for mem’ry grope.
