Where, When and How
Where, When and How
Shane Schick
Mark 6:1-13
I walk wearing sneakers in lieu of sandals,
and the warmth offered by a Sunday in July
is such that a single shirt will certainly suffice.
My wallet was left on the countertop,
and a bag would only weigh on me anyway.
This chorus of a breeze, these peonies,
kids’ laughter -- what bread could taste better?
And if I’ve any appetite left, any hungering,
it’s for the bravery to begin this journey
should this be the point of departure.
There are nothing but twigs in the grass,
but this irrepressible curling of my lips
is enough of a staff — even if it’s sideways,
even with the ends a bit bent — to support me.
