The Fall of Eutychus

The Fall of Eutychus
Margaret Benavides
My eyes open to the star-speckled dark.
I lie
back on a cloud.
How else can anyone get a view like this?
The wine moon flies by like a flaming blade
It is only a moment
I know the moment is
ending.
The firmament
is falling
away.
My eyes open to his earth-freckled face.
I rise
from a red pool.
How else can anyone see his words live?
The pool snakes from my unbroken body.
It was only an interruption
I know the interruption is
ending.
And he
is walking
away.
