The Stranger
The Stranger
Andrew D. McCartney
Dusk is not the time to start anything.
Surely we agree on that?
I’d recommend the Marriott.
My house, sadly, is full,
as is my life.
Perhaps, but really—at this hour?
I’ve forty unread emails still to answer.
What’s that? Ah, well. That’s kind of you to say.
There is a bit you wouldn’t know,
some business as yet incomplete.
That’s fair—I should be more precise.
But where to start? Besides, you know,
I don’t know the way.
I’m sorry? Ah, you’re right. Well come in, stay the night.
Hang on—what’s that? Those clouds behind you glow.
My God. It’s morning.
