Reintroduction

Griffin Messer

We laid in the grass after I landed,
pillowed in candlelight and clovers
under an oak canopy.
You crept in through
the shade and the flickering
and collected the stones
for my soul, the ebenezer.
We crossed the river
barefoot in November and
I reinflated.
There is ivy in me now
that runs from its roots through the ruins and
it has woven itself into a portrait.
