Re God: Note To An Ex-Girlfriend

Paul Van Peenen

You were right, I was wrong.
Moons circle, stars align.
Should have known it all along.

Faith v Reason, your Faith was strong.
Still, I couldn’t see a Grand Design.
Benign indifference? I was wrong

Chess is a game but so is mahjong.
Christ turned water into wine.
Should have known it all along.

No snake charm, no torch song.
No false prophet on the book’s spine.
You were right, I was wrong.

Cue Star Wars, cue The Gong
Show. Who said pearls before swine?
Should have known it all along.

Ancient, the story. And long. Long.
Short version: the fault was mine.
You were right, I was wrong.
Should have known it all along.
