High

High

Haley Hodges

May I be blessed to pull the high words
toward my low lullable mind
find me a heavenly pulley and I
will reach into the womb of the sky
tug its fruit down to where we suffer so, bully
like Luciferian goats shrink-wrapped
in the belief we see things as they are
bring me words from afar, alien words
shining as bride-grooms with open hands
let them seek strangers, be themselves strange
in the strange low lands of me, of my kind
words spun in and from the thinnest
air, heights beyond imagination where
Samaritan was the high word over priest,
over Levite, where love is yet the high word
over death
