Cavite Overnight
Cavite Overnight
J-Ann Avila
siesta high on hallelujah
after salted egg is overpoured
with Water, the air
smells like nonexistent sea
I breathe in with coffee
—caramel, salted.
and sunlight crawls:
soft, warm, and pure
across our embrace and holy
acoustic strings, my tears
are iodized on the couch
we last night shared with ramen
—spicy, mild.
in the fridge, a fish
rests whole and fresh, waiting
to be seasoned by the Salts
who, for a while, lay side by side
in the cold.
