Muscadine
Muscadine
R. Lynn Bruning
What once tasted sweet now tastes so bitter;
what’s made for the heat can’t last the winter;
thought I knew wine, but now I know better;
yellow muscadine, once sweet now bitter.
What once tasted bitter now tastes so sweet;
heart’s all aflutter in the Southern heat;
I thought I knew wine, but that’s what I get;
purple muscadine, once bitter now sweet.
