Leaking Eden
Leaking Eden
Daniel Youngblood
I knew a Man when I lived in the desert,
I met Him when I was thirsty,
I was nearing death from a dry throat,
But it seemed good to stop and talk to Him,
As we walked and talked something happened,
I saw drops of water dripping from His pocket,
Every now and then, a seed or two fell as well,
I was amazed, but He told me to focus on our conversation,
The further we walked, the more He leaked,
Eventually, He left a river in his wake,
One day, He was silent and beckoned me, drink,
I was scared to look away from Him for even a moment,
But I didn’t miss Him in the water,
With renewed energy we began to talk again,
Now, clumps of soil were falling from His back pocket,
Once fallen, grass immediately sprang from them,
His words were directed to me, not the ground,
But when His voice rang out flowers sprang up amongst the grass,
He could have held my attention with a single word,
It was a long time before I even noticed the flowers,
We walked for days, and I never grew hungry,
I was fed by the smile on His face,
The most beautiful trees and vines that man could imagine were rising around us,
But they were dull next to His gaze,
Wherever we journeyed, the garden sprung up behind,
The heart of the desert became like a rainforest,
But all of His attention was directed at me,
I was the one He was planting, growing, and cultivating,
Eden leaked out of Him as a byproduct.
