Lampern

Cameron Goya Lynde

If there’s a little too much plastic
The seam in the shade a little too obvious
The tiniest tint of top-heavy
The cable slightly shorter than would be super
The branding a little cheap
Does the lamp deserve to exist?

If there’s a little too little rhythm
A beat too quaint
A bit too bite sized
Not much umph, triumph, or violence
If it sounds a little too fun
If there’s no tears or minds jerked
Should I even write the poem?

If notoriety is only for those who are a notch above
If pride clouds a little too much love
And daily patterns are a little too stuck
If posture’s never perfect
If not quite enough art is poured into life
If I can’t provide for my wife
Does anything I think matter?

Do I mean anything
If I don’t make much of anything?

Am I grimacing
From obligated duress
When I say, “yes”?

I guess
I’m free to think I’m captive
