Brand—A Prayer

Brand into my soul:
Jesus loves me

So that if I lose
home, history, name,
still the brand may burn,
calling my wandering identity
to pause, circle closer
until it catches holy flame anew:
Jesus loves me

And if I know
nothing else,
one thought may fill
my empty mind
until it overflows
in an eternal spring:
Jesus loves me

And when I hold
nothing else,
my hands may dip
under the weight
of one anchor-treasure
worth world, life, self:
Jesus loves me
