Sito Sasieta
after Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor
The Cuban violin is another catechism
that leads God’s church into the dirt of jubilee.
A chorus teaches that we reap what we sow
while the violin coda instructs us to slow
down. How might we surrender to Leviticus
25 or open the chest to softer trombones?
Every 7 days & every 50 years, the Hebrew God
prods us into rest. The Lord of Sabaoth
whispers sabbath for the soil & each heir
of a slave who yet toils. Grant them the joy
of the güiro. Grant us an itch for salvation:
a harmony of no-till farming, timba & reparations.
