A Person Made

A Person Made

A Person Made

Abby Roberts

I am a person made up of perpetual potential.
I practice daily standing on the precipice of my great genesis.

Some days I reach and pull down stars by the pocketful,
But I am patchwork; all my pockets have holes.

Most days I fabricate evidence of a smile on my face.
I tack kind eyes with words I’ve heard and struggle to recreate.

I worry there is no pattern to follow; I’m lost like stardust
Dissolved in ocean water until I hear a seamster whisper.

Today is different. I think I’ll leap past
these loose threads of body and mind, straight to the source––

The Hands that gather my frayed strands begin
mending me from within, stitching lessons where I lack.

If this could count as reaching out,
Can I touch the hem?
