“And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!’” — Revelation 5:13

Beneath bright sprays where gulls both shriek and chase,
Beneath the shallow reefs’ anemones,
Beneath the silvered shoals of deeper seas,
In sunken realms where light commands no place,
They crouch, proud titans of an armored race—
Each jointed khan a grove of limbs and knees.
And ranged ov’r thrones of pil’d grey stones, all these
Do scorn the dark, each with a nightmare face.

But even here, where all is strange and dim,
These sentinels of liquid night shall know
When once the Scroll, its seals to break apart,
Is claimed—the Lamb—O, they shall know of Him.
And seeing Him through compound eyes below,
The crabs shall praise His strange four-chambered Heart.
