Love Poetry and Garden Psalms
Love Poetry and Garden Psalms
Mason Arbeiter
My God writes love poetry
And garden psalms, with
Criminals and adulterers as
His quills and calloused
Knees as His ink.
My God tends to write on
Water mixed with blood because
Blood is the heart-song the dead
Long for and water washes
The blade that cuts it.
My God spent everything
On an engagement ring for a
Woman that didn’t love Him yet.
My God painted stars in the night
Knowing that her cities and factories
Would scratch them out, so He
Showers her with moonlight so
She cannot miss Him in the dark.
My God creates a boy and a girl,
Excited to watch them meet
And awkwardly try to reflect
His love for them. He dreams up
Their children, who they are
“Just perfect” to raise with Him.
My God dances during the worst
Songs at weddings and cries to the
Eulogy of every villain, wishing they
Spent one more minute together.
My God doesn’t hesitate to put
His hands into the mud, and
Replace the salted soil of my soul
In exchange for His own, so
I will grow for Him.
