Jasmine Tea
Jasmine Tea
Bethany M. Colas
We sit tucked in a booth
with silk cushions,
two cast iron pots perched
over flames. I wonder
if the silver scent of softened leaves,
rising with the steam, will soften
you and me.
Your hand shakes slightly
as you pour yourself a cup.
I peer into mine,
swirling amber liquid, curling fingers
round the heat in my hand.
We are afraid
the unfurling of the years
will be too much.
So we admire the clever design
of the honey pot we will not use
because the tea
has already been infused
with night blooming blossoms
plucked in the sun.
