for an anchoress
for an anchoress
Lou Ella Hickman
your face and name
is lost to this world . . .
someone drops off groceries
from time to time
yet time hinges its doors
on the space that surrounds you . . .
i sent a donation through a friend
who knows you
more than just bananas for Christmas
i tell her
i imagine you pray like breath
wearing silence love’s mantle
for a world so far away
and yet so close
