Ever-Made

Ever-Made

Ever-Made

Eva Nappier

Help me to loosen stitches
From tightly knotted seams
Spasm-coiled from holding on
To what I cannot change

I know you’re my uplifter
You, the present fixer
Mending in the silence
What I dare not say

Somewhere in a house I picture
Far from any city
Bare rooms, each with rocking chairs
Where you sit to knit me

Long before my mother’s womb
Bright fingers swept through yarn
Touching every strand of me
Sweetly casting on

Even now you yet increase
Rocking as you weave
Bind-off here and purl three there
Humming over me

Be soft, my soul, within the hands
Of He who still creates you
Bend and flex and feel each
Thread of ongoing redemption
