Tempered
Tempered
Lila Robinett
Too acutely comprehended
and I will break
and no, I will not break
like a piece
of dark chocolate, and melt
on your palm. I will not
be known from
the whole. I will break
apart of something you
will never understand,
shatter just before
you make out what I Am.
Like diamonds scattered
on a mahogany dining
table the length of my love:
nothing you could
hold in your hands
like snow flurries against
a cast-iron sky spattered
with stars, nothing
you can ever know.
