Count on Mercy
Count on Mercy
Greg Huteson
Once
I died.
And twice
I cried
for mercy
in a court.
And once
I lied
to lawyers
and a dog.
Thrice
I almost
drowned
in a culvert
with
some mice.
There was
a net,
a drifting
log, a line.
I bowed
three times
to fishers
and a frog.
I once
spewed water
like a fount.
Twice
I wept out
all my woes.
And once
I laid me down.
