Revelation
Revelation
By Beth Tosh
I saw Mama Earth open up
To drink that flood
Of Dada God’s tears
All mixed with blood,
And those tears turned to fire
In the belly of her
Where the wails make their waves
And the embers stir.
She will gestate the flames
For a thousand years,
And her groans raise the wind
Of her children’s fears.
And they cry “How long?”
As they grit their teeth,
Thirsting hard for that fire
Writhing just beneath.
And the first born child
Has his arms heaped high
With the weight of their prayers
Flung to blackened skies.
He will usher the fire
From the womb of her
When the hour is so ripe
He can taste her burn.
And Dada God’s tears
Wash her laboured skin
As the remnant runs
From their thousand sins.
So they add their tears
And they rip their clothes,
And they join their brother
In his wide repose.
I see our hands open up
To catch the flood.
Let the fire take us, Mama,
Let it boil our blood.
